Introducing...my first book!
What They Never Taught
You in Sunday School is a Bible study, a historical survey, and a personal testimony. It began in a Christian chat
room on the Internet, where through a series of discussions I began to observe that many people simply don’t have a
good understanding of the faith that they profess. They don’t know much about the doctrinal system of their
church, or what makes it different from the one down the street. Even among people who have been a member of a
church for their entire lives, this pattern seemed consistent.
Initially, this realization launched me into a historical
study of baptism as the rite of initiation into the community of faith. Many misleading customs and assumptions
have been attached to this simple ordinance, and we will attempt to separate fact from fiction. One thing led to another,
and...well, here we are.
A few other controversial issues will be considered, as well. Practically all of us
believe in the Bible as the authoritative source of doctrine;
but instead of reading it for ourselves, we often defer to church creeds and traditions or family custom. The hazards
of instant conversion, and the origin of the Altar Call. In many churches, only about one-half of all members attend
on any given Sunday, so how are we supposed to be a witness to the unsaved outside world? We may become more materially
prosperous each year, but you'd never know it by watching what we drop into the collection plate.
